Did you eat something crappy halfway through your day just to get by? Having trouble sleeping? Gained a few pounds? Trouble getting a workout in? Overwhelmed by clutter? It's normal; everyone gets a bit stuck. We try a new diet or workout plan for a few weeks and get off track. All of our good intentions go out the door riding on mini candy bars. More often than not, we follow up small set backs by giving ourselves permission to fail even more. We stop working out, say yes to more candy, drink an extra glass of wine and feel even worse.
Instead of beating yourself up for a small set back, try taking some mini steps back to health. Check out the power of three; read on for some ideas. Each day, stop for a few minutes and pick three healthy habits you can complete.
Just Pick 3...
Drink 16 oz of water first thing in the morning.
Walk 3 minutes out and 3 minutes back before you eat lunch.
Smile at 3 strangers (please use your good judgment here).
Do 10 sit ups or a 3 minute workout.
Ask for 1/2 the sweetener in your morning latte.
Add a salad to your day.
Look in the mirror and tell yourself you're doing great.
Go to bed 'toddler' early...like 8 pm.
Read a book or magazine.
Clear as much of your kitchen counter space as possible.
Do some dishes. You don't have to finish, just start.
Organize a drawer.
Go through the fridge and discard expired or spoiled items.
Place dirty clothes and towels in the laundry.
Drink some bubbly water.
Try to get 8 hours of sleep.
Walk your dog (*or cat, ferret, bird, miniature donkey).
Choosing three healthy goals daily can push you right back on the healthy train. Why does it work? Finding a few minutes three times each day is manageable. It's just a list of 3 things you can easily accomplish. Try it and share how you used the power of 3.
*I've seen it done. Just sayin'.
