I love the idea of being super healthy. I'm sure there is a super athletic, slender person deep inside of me but it's currently covered by a some over-50 fluff. That said, health is always on my mind and I do try.
Currently, I'm just back from a fabulous vacation that involved huge amounts of food and wine. Loved it and I'm now looking for ways to feel better. Here are some picks for how to get healthy this week.
SOME WORK ALL PLAY adventure pod
Why I'm sharing... Some Work All Play or SWAP is a husband and wife coaching team with the philosophy happiness leads to better performance.
Megan Roche, PhD and David Roche are a running power couple that they give nerd level health and performance information. Despite that, this is a super fun and very upbeat podcast. They laugh while dishing great information. This episode talks about building up aerobic threshold.
Sound boring? The topic is but they make it funny and interesting. One caveat. They both speak very fast and the information is dense... if you find yourself lost, try playing it at .75x.
The mindbodygreen Podcast
Why I'm sharing... Leah Lagos, Psy.D, B.C.B. dishes on heart rate variability (HRV), a popular health metric at the moment.
Although I had briefly glanced at my HRV before, this podcast prompted me to revisit and actively monitor it. HRV serves as a gauge of how well you handle stressors, such as physical activity and daily challenges. A low HRV reading suggests a necessity for recuperation, which may involve addressing issues like overeating, reducing alcohol consumption, or ensuring sufficient rest.
Listening to this podcast inspired me to explore methods to enhance my HRV and, purportedly, my general well-being. I'll circle and share an update on my own HRV next month.
The Women's Running Podcast
The episode...Ep. 197. Running Controversies
Why I'm sharing... Women's Running UK | The Women's Running Podcast is a highly entertaining blog about running. But...Warning: Esther and Holly talk about running 10-30% of the time. They chat about life, why they're not running, their weekend trips, work, The Great British Baking Show, kids and sometimes they talk about running. Why then should you listen to a podcast about running that doesn't really cover running?
I have a list of reasons.
They do give some great information when they finally talk about running.
I feel like I'm listening in on a very fun table at a cafe.
Esther and Holly (or Holl for the insiders) are very funny and have British accents.
Occasionally they have a Savi-B (Sauvignon Blanc) which I find amusing.
They have created an inclusive community.
In the end I enjoy listening to the chat and it makes the miles go by a bit faster.
Tip: They focus more on running when they have a guest.
